Mental Health Awareness with Red Cross Enugu Youth

01

On Saturday, 9th May 2026, the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation had the honour of facilitating a powerful Mental Health Awareness and Education session with the vibrant Youth Wing volunteers of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Enugu Branch. The session formed part of their Red Cross Week celebration under the inspiring theme “United For Humanity.”

The interactive session, expertly anchored by the Cope and Live Enugu Headquarters team led by our Co-Founder and Mental Health Expert, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwachukwu, left a lasting impact on the young volunteers.

Highlights of the Session

The programme kicked off with fun and energising mind games designed to boost focus, attention, and human connection.

This was followed by an open Q&A segment and a comprehensive teaching session covering:

  • Holistic well-being and emotional intelligence

  • The impact of negative emotions on physical and mental health

  • Common misconceptions about mental health

  • Practical strategies to reduce stigma

  • Age-specific stress factors affecting young people

  • Effective coping mechanisms

Participants were strongly encouraged to speak up without shame and seek help when needed. Our toll-free helpline for free and confidential counselling was shared to ensure ongoing support.

The session concluded beautifully as the volunteers penned their key takeaways on our “Wall of Fame” — a powerful visual reminder of the knowledge and inspiration they carried home.

Voices from the Red Cross

Florence E. Nwafor, Disaster Management Officer, NDRT Trainer, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Enugu Branch, lauded the partnership:

“We are deeply grateful for this timely and impactful collaboration with the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation. Our youth volunteers play critical roles in disaster response and humanitarian service, often facing high-stress situations. Equipping them with mental health knowledge, emotional intelligence, and practical coping strategies is not just beneficial — it is essential for their resilience and effectiveness in the field. This partnership has strengthened our commitment to the holistic well-being of our members. We look forward to sustaining this relationship and creating more opportunities to support the mental health of our volunteers and the communities we serve.”
