01

On June 18, 2025, Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation (CALMHAF), in collaboration with Rangers International Football Club Foundation (RIFC Foundation), conducted an impactful community-based intervention at National Grammar School, Nike, Enugu, Southeast Nigeria. This initiative, part of a deliberate effort to combat Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) using a sustainable, community-driven approach, aimed to raise awareness and foster solutions to address this pressing issue.

As part of the intervention, 20 students from SS1 and SS2 classes were selected and trained under the Student-to-Student (S2S) Initiative. The training focused on deepening awareness and education about the dangers of SGBV and promoting its prevention. The sessions covered critical topics, including:

- Understanding SGBV: Students were educated on the nature, origins, and manifestations of sexual and gender-based violence.

- Anger Management and Critical Thinking: Participants learned strategies to manage emotions and the importance of respecting the rights of others, particularly across gender lines, to prevent violent behavior.

- Violence Against Women: The training highlighted various forms of violence against women and emphasized the need to stand against such acts.

- Inclusivity in SGBV Awareness: The sessions addressed the vulnerability of both girls and boys to SGBV, encouraging students to report incidents promptly to parents, guardians, or teachers.

- Vigilance and Safety: Students were advised to remain cautious of their surroundings and wary of inappropriate favors or behaviors, even from trusted individuals, family members, or close associates.

- Legal, Social, Cultural, and Religious Implications: The training explored the broader consequences of SGBV, reinforcing the need for accountability and cultural sensitivity.

A key highlight of the intervention was the official inauguration of the S2S Initiative, a collaborative program by Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation and RIFC Foundation. This initiative equips trained students to engage with their peers across various classes, implementing a structured action plan to drive measurable impact and outcomes in SGBV awareness and prevention.

This intervention underscores the commitment of both organizations to fostering a safer, more informed community through education, empowerment, and sustainable frameworks to eradicate SGBV.
