Menstrual Hygiene Beyond The Pads At Imo State

01

On Thursday, 28th May 2026, the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation held a powerful menstrual hygiene outreach at Best Woman Christian Secondary School, Mgbidi, Oru West LGA, Imo State for 70 girls in Js1 to SS2.

The session, expertly anchored by our dedicated Imo State Programs Manager, Mrs. Chinwendu Obileme, was titled “Menstrual Hygiene Beyond the Pads” — emphasizing that holistic care for menstruating girls goes far beyond just providing pads.

The program focused on educating adolescent girls about menstruation as a natural biological process, while addressing proper hygiene practices, emotional wellbeing, and breaking harmful myths.

Key Highlights:

  • Clear explanation of menstruation as a natural biological process, including physical changes during puberty and the menstrual cycle using visual illustrations.

  • Strong emphasis on sexual abstinence before marriage.

  • Practical guidance on tracking cycles, recognizing normal vs. abnormal periods, and managing common symptoms.

  • Hands-on demonstration of proper pad usage, hygiene routines, and safe disposal.

  • Open conversations on mental health during periods — addressing mood swings, anxiety, and self-care strategies.

  • Tackling harmful myths and misconceptions, while encouraging girls to speak up and seek support from parents and teachers.

The students were highly engaged and participated actively during the Q&A session.

At Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation, we believe menstrual hygiene is more than just a pad — it’s about knowledge, dignity, confidence, and breaking stigma. Every girl deserves to experience her period with understanding and pride, not shame.

We’re proud of the impact made and committed to reaching more girls across Imo State and beyond.
