Seen, Valued & Empowered: Supporting Young Mothers Against Postpartum Depression, Building Income
Through our Mother to Mother Initiative (MTMI), the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation reached 25 young mothers in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on 5 October 2026 at Amike Aba Town Health Centre.
The session combined mental health education and psychosocial support with practical skills. Participants learned strategies for managing motherhood-related stress, with a focused discussion on postpartum depression: its risks, early warning signs, and effects on both maternal well-being and child development. They were also trained in bleach and liquid soap production, equipping them with an income-generating skill to better support themselves, their children, and their families.
The mothers left seen, valued, and better prepared to care for their mental health while strengthening their households.
The session was facilitated by Mrs. Rosemary Idika, CALMHAF Ebonyi State Programs Manager, and Kosi Aweke, skills facilitator.
This work reflects our commitment to early childhood development. When mothers are supported, children, families and communities thrive.
