01

Participating Organizations:

  • Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation (CALMHAF)

  • UNTH Foundation

  • Caritas Nigeria (Enugu Office) in collaboration with Healthy Society Care and Development Initiative

Purpose of the Meeting

Representatives of Caritas reached out to explore and agree on the integration of tuberculosis (TB) screening, HIV/Syphilis testing, and related diagnostic services into the forthcoming Total Care: Mind and Body Outreach scheduled for Saturday, 24 January 2026, at Community Primary School Field, Ameke Ozalla, Enugu State.

The visit by Caritas Nigeria and Healthy Society Care and Development Initiative representatives to the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation Resource Centre on Tuesday, 20 January 2026 aimed to strengthen multi-sectoral collaboration and expand the scope of holistic healthcare services already planned under the CALMHAF–UNTH Foundation partnership.

Background – Total Care: Mind and Body Outreach

The Total Care initiative is a flagship joint program between Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation and UNTH Foundation. It is designed to deliver free, integrated physical and mental health services to vulnerable populations, with the pilot on 24th January giving special attention to elderly persons (60+ years) and retirees.

Core free services already confirmed for the 24 January 2026 outreach include:

  • Dental examinations

  • Mental health screening and psychoeducation

  • Wellness practices (breathing exercises, light stretching, relaxation techniques)

  • General medical consultation and basic clinical examinations

  • One-on-one counseling sessions with qualified mental health professionals

  • Targeted health education session on dementia prevention and management

The program is positioned as the launch event of a longer-term, sustainable community health intervention that includes training of Community Mental Health First Aiders and establishment of ongoing support structures.

Conclusion

The 20 January 2026 meeting marked a successful step toward broader multi-stakeholder collaboration in Enugu State. By incorporating TB and HIV/Syphilis services, the Total Care: Mind and Body Outreach on 24 January 2026 is now positioned to offer one of the most comprehensive free health interventions yet delivered to the Ameke Ozalla community and surrounding areas.

The partnership between Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation, UNTH Foundation, and the collaboration with Caritas Nigeria, and Healthy Society Care and Development Initiative exemplifies effective cross-sector cooperation in pursuit of holistic, equitable, and stigma-free healthcare delivery.
