Background
Recent attacks in the Mushere community of Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA), Plateau State, Nigeria, have resulted in significant loss of life, particularly among men, leaving many widows and families in distress. These incidents are part of ongoing security challenges in the region, contributing to widespread trauma, displacement, and humanitarian needs among survivors. The affected communities require urgent psychosocial, therapeutic, and material support to aid recovery and rebuilding.
Event Overview
A three-day humanitarian and support program was successfully organized and conducted for victims and survivors of the attacks, with a primary focus on widows who lost their husbands.
Organizer:
Bamyil Taimako Foundation(NGO) in partnership with Some Missionaries of the Great Commission Movement of Nigeria.
The program was facilitated by the Resource persons from African Services.
Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation participated in an observational and assessment capacity, with representation by the Plateau State Program Manager.

Time: 9:00 a.m. (daily start)
All victims, particularly widows from the Mushere community, were invited and encouraged to attend to receive assistance. The program ran for three consecutive days.
Program Structure and Key Activities
The intervention was structured around three core pillars to address immediate and holistic needs:
Day One: Trauma Therapy
Focused on psychosocial and therapeutic support to help participants process grief, trauma, and emotional distress. Sessions emphasized mental health and well-being, providing counseling and group support to survivors.Day Two: Spiritual Renewal
Centered on spiritual encouragement, prayer, and renewal activities to foster hope, resilience, and emotional healing through faith-based support.Day Three: Medical Outreach and Material Distribution
Included medical services and the distribution of essential items. Notably, wrappers were distributed to 300 targeted widows who lost their husbands in the Mushere community attacks. Additional support addressed basic needs such as food and clothing.
Key Observations and Needs Assessment
During attendance and engagement, the following priority needs were observed among survivors (particularly widows):
Psychosocial support — To address grief, community reintegration, and emotional recovery.
Therapeutic support — Including mental health services and overall well-being interventions.
Means of livelihood — Such as food items, clothing, and other essentials to support daily survival and long-term stability.
Partnership and Collaboration Opportunities
The organizing NGO (Bamyil Taimako Foundation) and partners remain open to collaborations with other NGOs, organizations, or stakeholders willing to provide additional assistance. Interested parties are encouraged to reach out for potential partnerships to scale up support for affected communities.
Conclusion
The three-day program provided critical immediate relief and support to survivors of the Mushere attacks in Bokkos. It successfully combined trauma care, spiritual strengthening, medical outreach, and material aid, directly benefiting 300 widows among others. This initiative highlights the importance of coordinated humanitarian efforts in conflict-affected areas of Plateau State. Cope and Live Foundation continues to monitor the situation and advocate for sustained psychosocial and livelihood support for vulnerable populations.
